Sutton re-signs with Rabbitohs for 2019

22 November 2018 01:22

South Sydney Rabbitohs veteran John Sutton will play a 16th NRL season with the club after signing a deal for 2019.

Sutton, 34, became the first player to make 300 NRL appearances for the Rabbitohs earlier this year.

The club's 2014 premiership captain will look to add to his 309 games after signing on for next year.

"I couldn't be happier about having the opportunity to play another season with Souths," Sutton said.

"I love the Rabbitohs, I love playing for the members and the fans, and I can't wait to get back to training and ripping in to get ready for the season ahead."

The Rabbitohs went close to a Grand Final appearance this year, losing to eventual premiers the Sydney Roosters in a preliminary final.

South Sydney general manager of football Shane Richardson was delighted to have Sutton back for another season.

"I've known John and his family for nearly 15 years now and he has grown as a leader and player on the field; and as a man, husband and father off the field in that time," he said.

"He played some of the best football of his career in 2018 and he has earned another season at the Rabbitohs.

"John's experience is invaluable and he is a much-loved and respected member of the team.

"We're delighted to see John in the red and green for another year in 2019."
