Frampton to face Jackson as Fury continues comeback in Belfast

18 June 2018 17:19

Carl Frampton will go up against Luke Jackson when he tops a bill that also includes Tyson Fury in Belfast on August 18.

Featherweight Frampton gets the chance to fight in front of a stadium crowd in his hometown when he takes on the Australian at Windsor Park, the home of Northern Ireland's football team.

Jackson is undefeated in 16 fights as a professional - winning seven of those inside the distance - after a distinguished amateur career.

The 33-year-old Tasmanian, who won a bronze medal at the 2006 Commonwealth Games before captaining Australia's boxing squad at the 2012 Olympics, gets the chance to challenge for the interim WBO title in the main event.

Oscar Valdez is the organisation's full champion - he last fought against former Frampton foe Scott Quigg, beating the Englishman by unanimous decision in March - and a clash with 'The Jackal' appears to be in the pipeline.

However, the Northern Irishman is taking nothing for granted against Jackson, as he plans to put on a show in front of his loyal supporters.

"I respect any opponent who is willing to come to Windsor Park and fight me," Frampton said at a press conference to confirm the bout.

"I'll be ready for this fight. There are bigger fights on the horizon, but I cannot overlook Luke Jackson. I will need to be in the shape of my life and do a job on him.

"I think Windsor Park deserves me putting on a top-class performance. It's going to be a quality night."

Fury, meanwhile, will continue his comeback on the same card, though it is yet to be confirmed who the former unified heavyweight champion will face in his second outing since November 2015.

There is also a world-title shot for flyweight Paddy Barnes, who will take on Nicaragua's Cristofer Rosales for the WBC belt in just his sixth outing in the pros.
